Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain. Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can also detract from one’s appearance.

Beautiful, straight teeth blend in to your face and are associated with numerous positive qualities. Nowadays, thanks to state-of-the-art orthodontic techniques, esthetically pleasing teeth are available to everybody.

Orthodontic treatment (teeth straightening) is provided at our Manurewa, Papatoetoe, Panmure, East Tamaki, Hendersen and Hamilton branch with free initial consultation where we discuss your treatment options and finance packages.

We also have a 12 months interest free finance options from Q card.

We provide different types of braces:

Traditional metal braces

braces2Dental braces can correct crooked and crowded teeth, a misaligned bite, and jaw problems. Braces also eliminate problems you may have with eating, speaking properly, or with keeping your teeth clean. Traditional braces have come a long way over the years, becoming sleeker, smaller, and more comfortable. And that’s certainly something to smile about!

Traditional braces consist of standard metal brackets that are adhered to your teeth with an adhesive and connected by wire. They require periodic tightening so pressure can gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw as needed.

Taking Care of Your Braces

If you and your dentist decide that metal braces are the right choice for your orthodontic needs, some things to keep in mind include

  • Avoid foods that aren’t braces-friendly. Avoid chewy foods, like caramels or other soft candies, as well as very hard or crunchy foods that could damage your braces. Certain fruits and vegetables can get stuck in your braces, and should be cut into small pieces. Your practitioner will likely give you a list of foods to avoid to keep your braces in good shape and decrease your risk of cavities.
  • Brush and floss appropriately. Taking proper care of your teeth is always important, but it is especially true when you have braces. Brushing and flossing regularly will keep your braces looking good and help you avoid staining to your teeth. Your dentist may recommend you use a special brush designed to get into the crevices and different surfaces in metal braces. It may take some practice to learn how to brush and floss around your braces, but it will get easier with time. Learn more about proper flossing techniques in the Colgate Oral Care resources.
  • Keep your followup appointments. Seeing your dentist and orthodontist regularly allows for any adjustments to the braces to be made and gives you an opportunity to have any questions or concerns addressed.

braces3You will be wearing your braces for a fairly lengthy period, so it is important to follow your orthodontist’s instructions and care for them properly. While braces may seem like an inconvenience, once the treatment is over, your new smile will be all the reward you need.

What is Invisalign?

invisalign_headerYour Invisalign treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental provider. What’s more, a virtual treatment plan generated by Align Technology’s unique ClinCheck® software shows the series of movements your teeth will go through over the course of the treatment. This allows you to see upfront what your teeth are expected to look like at the end of the treatment. From the results of the ClinCheck software, your custom-made, clear aligners are produced especially for you.If you’re ready for a smile that transforms your appearance, Invisalign is your answer.
